Scanners: new album 'Love Is Symmetry' set for release on the 10th of June posted
21 May 2013
Love Is Symmetry is the third album from London quintet Scanners and their best yet, opening with the dark percussion of the title track, a song that lures you in with its whispered vocal before exploding wide open into a huge Vangelis- like chorus. Tracks such as Mexico and Charmed Life have an Arcade Fire quality, rising and falling with the energy of Sarah Daly's vocals and violin. This violin also adds richness to the epic State Of Wonder, a song about the river Lea that flows past their window in East London.
The Scanners trademark synth is also a strong presence on many of the tracks. On songs, like the impossibly named Today Is The Tomorrow That They Promised Yesterday and the squarely danceable Control, the synth takes the lead. The weird broken rhythm of When They Put Me Back Together They Forgot To Turn Me On, and the strangely joyful Cure-like My Streets Are Always In The Shade see them broaden their range, providing two album highlights.
Recorded and produced by the band, with mixes by Victor Van Vugt (PJ Harvey, Athlete), the sound is still Scanners. Yet they have moved on. Love Is Symmetry seems more urgent, the rhythms more complex, but still the love of strong melody is there on every track.
Scanners have released two albums via Dim Mak Records (Bloc Party, Atari Teenage Riot, Steve Aoki) and their songs have soundtracked many a dramatic twist on TV shows such as Shameless, Gossip Girl, Entourage and One Tree Hill. They have also shared stages with Laura Marling, Devo, Air, The Horrors, Asobi Seksu, Florence And The Machine and These New Puritans amongst many others.
The first single off the album- Control is out on the 3rd of June.

Pseudo Nippon: Video for 'Universal Brotherhood' premieres on Dazed from today posted
19 Sep 2012
Brand new Tigertrap signings Pseudo Nippon are premiering the video for their new single 'Universal Brotherhood (Cops Say Ow)' on the DAZED WEBSITE from today.
The video sees the experimental, double-drum powered trio cycling through London in an ever-increasing convoy, which led to the eventual arrest of four of the party. The single is due for release digitally on 15th October with the Negative Pegasus remix as a b-side.
The single precedes their new album 'Colorama' (due 5th November), for which they have melded their chromatic experimental pop into a gleaming whole. It was named after the empty, then squatted, photographic factory where it was recorded.
Running for two-and-a-half years, the space became the home and hub of a community of anarchists, activists, artists and gardeners, all of whom commonly enjoyed the taste of beef eggs (a PN speciality). Left without a home, they continue their quest to play intense and cosmic live shows, as well as finding shelter for the night.
They celebrate the launch of their record with a special party show at The Dalston Victoria on Saturday 13th October. |
